The Detroit Lakes Police Department is hosting a free bike rodeo, providing an opportunity for local families to learn and practice safe bicycle habits, with a focus on promoting a culture of safety on the roads and in the community.
Bike Safety Skills and Helmet Fittings
Kids in grades K-8 can expect to participate in a variety of engaging learning stations that will teach them bike safety skills and provide a proper bike helmet fitting. These learning stations will help children gain greater confidence around bicycling and learn how to properly wear a helmet.
- Children will be fitted for a bike helmet by a certified professional
- They will learn how to properly wear a helmet and adjust it for a comfortable fit
- They will practice balancing and steering their bike in a safe and controlled environment
New Bikes, Used Bikes, and Bike Helmets
In addition to learning bike safety skills, children will also have the opportunity to take home a new bike, used bike, or bike helmet. The event will include a selection of new bikes, used bikes, and bike helmets that will be given away for free.
Bike Safety Inspection
Before receiving a bike or helmet, children will undergo a free bike safety inspection. This inspection will check the condition and safety of the bike and helmet, making sure they are ready for safe use.
Prizes and Giveaways
Children who complete the bike rodeo course will be eligible to enter a drawing for one of six new, high-quality bicycles. In addition to the bikes, twenty used bikes will also be given away to those who do not have a bike of their own.
Hula Hooping and Fun
For those who would like to try their hand at hula hooping, there will be hoops available to try. This fun activity will provide an opportunity for kids to get moving and have fun while learning about bike safety.
